with Love and Squalor

When I photograph a newborn I want to capture the moments that I wish I could remember more clearly from my first days and weeks with Esme.  I don’t have any regrets for not having pictures of her with a giant pink bow on her back, or snuggled into some strange, womb-like knit stocking, or any of these other bizarre ‘newborn photography props’ that I see.  I wish I had images to remind me how small she was in our arms and how quiet our time together was.

So, a few days ago I spent a quiet morning with an old friend and her baby boy to try to capture just that for her.  These are a few of my favorite images.

And her first baby, Cole.  :)

It seems like, for each wedding, there’s one image that I fall in love with.  The funny thing is it’s usually a shot that was completely unplanned.  I’m not going to read into what that says about me as a photographer.
